Why "PillowFort?"
Remember when you were a kid, or feeling like a kid, and were faced with a rainy or just housebound day... there was nowhere to go, no money to do anything anywhere or you needed to avoid chores. Chances are, you built a fort from blankets, sofa cushions, tables, anything that was within reach. It wasn't planned except in the moment, it would only last until someone made you take it down, but for the time it was standing, it broke the monotony of the average day.
This is the basic mission of PillowFort Performance Group- immediate, site-specific art that entertains. There is a potential to elicit joy and surprise through performance art and sneak in some education, like a pill sunk in peanut butter. To complement the existing opportunities to attend performance and visual events in dedicated spaces around Montevallo, PillowFort looks to bring the live art experience out from inside those spaces to unexpected and spontaneous events.
At the heart of this mission is a policy of "Pay What You Wish" donations onsite and online. Essentially, PillowFort is free and open to anyone who attends.
